Changing opportunities: refugees and host communities in western Tanzania

This project examines the implications of the presence of refugees and the relief operation for host communities in western Tanzania. It notes that the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and international non-governmental organizations established massive relief programs to address the needs of refugees and, in some cases, local hosts. But less attention was given to the effects of this situation on the ecology, economy, and politics of those already living in western Tanzania.
