Details progress made in the implementation of Security Council resolution 1559 (2004) since the Secretary-General's report of 1 Oct. 2005 (S/2004/777). Provides the background of the conflicts and reviews the situation under following headings: 1) withdrawal of foreign forces deployed in Lebanon; 2) sovereignty, territorial integrity, unity and political independence of Lebanon; 3) presidential election process in Lebanon; 4) extension of Lebanese government control over all Lebanese territory; and 5) disbanding and disarmament of Lebanese and non-Lebanese militias. Includes text of identical letters dated 26 Apr. 2005 from the Permanent Representative of the Syrian Arab Republic, which encloses a letter from Farouk Al-Shara', Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Syrian Arab Republic, confirming the full withdrawal of the Syrian troops, security apparatus and assets from Lebanon to their positions in the Syrian Arab Republic on 26 Apr. 2005.
