The present government, unlike its predecessors, has not made use of the strict libel laws to restrict the news media. There are three daily and several weekly privately owned newspapers. They provide diverse views on public issues, as do the state-run radio station and five privately owned radio stations. The state-run television station has been accused by critics of favoring the ruling party.
