The government continued its decade-long effort to diversify the news media. The constitution provides for freedom of the press. Several Maltese-language newspapers and a few English-language papers are published. To promote their political views, two main political parties own newspapers, television, and radio stations. There are 6 TV stations and 19 radio stations. Malta has one of the lowest rates of Internet usage in Europe, with only 4 percent of the population online.
