June 1, 2004, in Kirkuk, Iraq

Al-Nuaimi, who worked as the editor of a number of Kirkuk-based newspapers in northern Iraq, was killed in Kirkuk in early June 2004, local journalists told CPJ. Reports said he died in a grenade attack on his car. It was unclear at year's end whether the attack was related to al-Nuami's work as a journalist. He was also known as Samir Abdul Amir al-Nuaimi.
