Ouari, a journalist with state-run Algerian State Television who produced a weekly news program for the hearing-impaired, was killed in the morning near his home in Sidi Moussa, about 35 kilometers (22 miles) southeast of Algiers. One week earlier, the radical Armed Islamic Group (GIA) had issued a press release threatening to execute all journalists working for television and radio.
