Monge, a columnist for the daily El Gráfico and president of the Broadcasters Association, was gunned down by five unknown men in front of his home, located north of Guatemala City. At the time of his death, Monge was also serving as a press attaché for Public Prosecutor Ramses Cuestas Gómez, who was investigating top military officials for alleged corruption and criminal activity.
