The body of Akgun, a former correspondent for the weekly Yeni Ulke, was found hanging from a utility pole in Nusaybin with a note saying that he had been killed by the Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) for being a traitor. Although no one questions that the PKK was responsible for his killing, some doubt it was prompted by his journalistic work.
