RESOLUTION ADOPTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY
Charter of Economic Rights and Duties of States

  The General Assembly, Recalling its resolutions 3201 (S-VI) and 3202 (S-VI) of 1 May 1974, containing the Declaration and the Programme of Action on the Establishment of a New International Economic Order, 3281 (XXIX) of 12 December 1974, containing the Charter of Economic Rights and Duties of States, and 3362 (S-VII) of 16 September 1975 on development and international economic co-operation, which laid down the foundations of the new international economic order, Bearing in mind article 34 of the Charter of Economic Rights and Duties of States and General Assembly resolution 3486 (XXX) of 12 December 1975, relating to the review of the implementation of the Charter, Recalling its resolution 37/204 of 20 December 1982, in which it decided to conduct at its thirty-ninth session, on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the adoption of the Charter of Economic Rights and Duties of States, a comprehensive review of its implementation, as provided for in article 34 thereof, Having examined the report of the Secretary-General on the implementation of the Charter of Economic Rights and Duties of States submitted in accordance with General Assembly resolution 37/204, Deeply concerned at the gravity of the world economic situation and its impact on the developing countries,

1. Decides to undertake a thorough and systematic review of the implementation of the Charter of Economic Rights and Duties of States, taking into account the evolution of all the economic, social, legal and other factors related to the principles upon which the Charter is based and to its purpose, in order to identify the most appropriate actions for the implementation of the Charter that would lead to lasting solutions to the grave economic problems of developing countries within the framework of the United Nations;

2. Decides also to establish an Ad Hoc Committee of the Whole to Review the Implementation of the Charter of Economic Rights and Duties of States, to be convened for three weeks in 1985, to carry out the review mentioned in paragraph 1 above, and requests the Committee to report thereon to the General Assembly at its fortieth session;

3. Requests the Secretary-General to prepare a report on the implementation of the Charter of Economic Rights and Duties, to be submitted to the Ad Hoc Committee in 1985.
