XVIII. RESOLUTIONS ADOPTED WITHOUT REFERENCE TO A COMMITTEE
1957. Installation of mechanical means of voting

The General Assembly, Recalling its resolution 1898 (XVIII) of 11 November 1963 relating to the report of the Ad Hoc Committee on the Improvement of the Methods of Work of the General Assembly, [1] Having considered the parts of the Ad Hoc Committee's report which concern the introduction of mechanical means of voting,[2] Having noted the reports of the Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Questions[3] and the report of the Fifth Committee,[4]

1. Authorizes the Secretary-General to arrange for the installation of electrical voting equipment in the General Assembly Hall on an experimental basis for one year, and to carry out additional work of a preparatory nature in one or two committee rooms so as to permit an eventual expansion of the system without undue expense, if the experiment is successful;

2. Requests the Secretary-General to include in the provisional agenda of the nineteenth session an item entitled "Installation of mechanical means of voting".
