X. RESOLUTIONS ADOPTED ON THE REPORTS OF THE SIXTH COMMITTEE
985. Amendment to article 10 of the Statute of the International Law Commission: term of office of members of the Commission

The General Assembly, Having regard to paragraphs 27 and 28 of the report[1] of the International Law Commission on the work of its seventh session, Taking into account the view of the Commission that a change in the term of office of its members from three to five years would be beneficial to the continuity of its work,

1. Decides to amend as follows article 10 of the Statute of the International Law Commission:

"The members of the Commission shall be elected for five years. They shall be eligible for re-election";

2. Decides that the foregoing amendment shall take effect as from 1 January 1957.
