1986/28. Report of the Working Group on Traditional Practices Affecting the Health of Women and Children[1]91
The Commission on Human Rights, Stressing the existence of the phenomenon of traditional practices affecting the health of women and children in some parts of the world; Aware of the importance of education and information and of raising the level of development as effective means of combating such practices, Recalling its resolution 1984/48 of 13 March 1984, Having examined the report of the Working Group on Traditional Practices Affecting the Health of Women and Children,[2]92 Taking note of the comments on the report, Welcoming the efforts made by certain Governments and non-governmental organizations at the national and regional levels,1. Takes note of the report of the Working Group and commends the Group on its efforts to complete its study;
2. Requests the Secretary-General to transmit the report to Governments, the competent organizations and specialized agencies, drawing their attention to the recommendations contained in the report;
3. Calls upon the specialized agencies of the United Nations system and the interested non-governmental organizations, in their respective fields of competence, to provide the necessary assistance to the Governments which request it in order to help them combat such practices.
