The Economic and Social Council,
Considering the continuing need for international action on behalf of refugees,
Considering the valuable work which has been performed by the Office of the High Commissioner both in providing international protection for refugees and in promoting permanent solutions for their problems,
1. Expresses its appreciation of the report[1] which the High Commissioner has presented to it for transmission to the eighth regular session of the General Assembly;
2. Recommends that the Office of the High Commissioner should be continued for a further period of five years;
3. Draws the attention of the General Assembly to the importance of making provision for the arrangements of the Office to be reviewed at least one year before the expiry of the period which it will determine.
