Crown copyright. The Act received Royal Assent on 28 October 1971 and partially entered into force on 1 January 1973. This is the original version of the Act; no subsequent amendments are incorporated.
It was repealed in part by Immigration and Asylum act of 1999 and Nationality, Immigration and Asylum Act 2002. It was amended by Nationality and Borders Act 2022.
The immigration rules and subsequent changes to them were made pursuant to this law. The Tribunal Procedure (First-tier Tribunal) (Immigration and Asylum) was also enacted pursuant to this law.
