Chechen parliament speaker Magomed Daudov
Chechen parliament speaker Magomed Daudov says all shops in Russia's North Caucasus region have "voluntarily" refused to sell alcohol after a recent traffic accident that killed eight people.
Daudov spoke in Grozny on December 1 during a meeting chaired by Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov, who said regional authorities do not plan to ban alcohol sales.
On November 27, seven people, including two girls aged 10 and 14, were killed in the traffic accident near the Chechen capital, Grozny. Another person later died in hospital.
Investigations revealed that the collision of three vehicles was caused by a drunk driver.
