Thousands of people have demonstrated in cities across Iraq to show support for a reform plan that aims to target corruption and reckless government spending.

The largest demonstrations on August 14 took place in the cities of Baghdad, Babil, Basra, and Kut.

People played music, danced, chanted, and waved Iraqi flags and banners showing support for the first of several reform measures put in place by Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi.

Those who attended the demonstrations in Baghdad chanted slogans criticizing other politicians while praising Abadi.

"We want to try the corrupt and get back the Iraqi money that was wasted," activist Muhammad Jabbar said.

Most of those gathered in Baghdad's Tahrir Square and in other cities said that the problems Iraq is facing are far from being resolved.

They continued to call on the government to improve the poor quality of services, especially the frequent power outages.
