Pakistan's foreign policy chief will visit India for security talks on August 23 in an attempt to improve tense relations between the two nuclear-armed rival nations.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Pakistani counterpart, Nawaz Sharif agreed to a new round of talks when they met in Russia in July.
Since their meeting, a series of militant attacks and border skirmishes along the disputed border in the Himalayan region of Kashmir have increased tensions.
The two countries have traded accusations over the incidents.
Pakistani National Security Adviser Sartaj Aziz will travel to New Delhi to meet his Indian counterpart, Ajit Doval.
The discussions are to focus on combatting terrorism in the region.
India and Pakistan have fought three wars since gaining independence from Britain in 1947.
