Rawdha Bridge, a key structure that connects Anbar and Karbala provinces, has been blown up.
RAMADI, Iraq – Iraqi security forces and Sunni tribesmen have continued their multipronged attacks against Al-Qaeda-linked militants and antigovernment forces in the restive western Anbar Province.
Intense shelling overnight in Fallujah killed at least three people killed and wounded 34, leading to an exodus of people.
In Ramadi, security forces claimed success in clearing militants from the Malab Stadium and nearby police station.
"The advance was very strong and I can tell you that the stadium has been completely cleaned out. There is still a military presence on 60th Street, including armored vehicles and tanks," Brigadier Khamis Ibrahim al-Dulaimi, commander of the 4th Regiment in Anbar, told RFE/RL.
"I can tell you that the situation is 80 to 85 percent excellent. God willing, military operations will be over in a day or two in Anbar."
Another assault is centered on the rural area of Albu Bali, where large numbers of insurgents are hiding.
Elsewhere, the Rawdha Bridge, a key structure that connects Anbar and Karbala provinces, was blown up.
Large parts of Ramadi and Fallujah fell to the militants late last month following an army withdrawal after it cleared out a Sunni protest camp in Ramadi.
