Russia's State Duma has approved a bill in its second reading that would ban the adoption of children by foreign same-sex couples.
Amendments to the law on the protection of orphans were approved on June 18.
Passage of the amendments in the bill's third and final reading has been scheduled for June 21.
The amendments ban adoption of Russian orphans by foreign same-sex couples and single foreign nationals from countries where same-sex marriages are legalized.
Last month, the Russian commissioner for children's rights proposed the suspension of an adoption agreement between Moscow and Paris after France legalized same-sex marriages.
President Vladimir Putin publicly stated two weeks ago that he would sign the law banning Russian children's adoption by foreign same-sex couples if approved by the parliament.
