A Georgian soldier has been killed in Afghanistan, bringing to 18 the number of Georgian service members killed in the country since the arrival of the Georgian military contingent there in 2009.

The Georgian Defense Ministry said on October 12 that Corporal Mindia Abashidze was killed while fulfilling a combat task under the NATO-led mission in Afghanistan.
