ISLAMABAD – Pakistan is celebrating a national holiday in commemoration of a resolution that sparked the struggle for that independent Muslim state on the Indian subcontinent.

The All-India Muslim League, headed by the founder of the Pakistani nation, Mohammad Ali Jinnah, passed the Lahore Resolution on March 23, 1940.

The event began a struggle by India's Muslim leaders to create an independent Islamic country and ended with the creation of Pakistan on August 14, 1947.

Pakistan Day is marked every year with military parades and medal ceremonies.
