Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has reiterated that Moscow is against imposing a United Nations resolution on Syria.
The resolution, which was drafted by France, Britain, and Germany, condemns the Syrian government for its brutal crackdown on protest activity.
UN Security Council members Russia and China oppose the resolution.
Lavrov called on the Syrian opposition to hold talks with the country's leaders, warning that any effort to oust longtime President Bashar al-Assad could lead to dangerous consequences.
Rights activists say 1,400 people have been killed in clashes between security forces and protesters demanding an end to Assad's rule.
