The Youth Front activists before their trial
MINSK – The Lenin district court in Minsk has found three activists of the Youth Front guilty of organizing an unsanctioned public gathering and fined them, RFE/RL's Belarus Service reports.
The five members of the Youth Front staged a demonstration in front of the presidential-administration building on March 2 carrying a big sign saying: "No to Political Terror!"
They also handed a petition to official representatives of the presidential administration, demanding a stop to political persecution in Belarus.
The five were arrested and taken to the Lenin district police department, though two of them were freed later. The three who were convicted on March 3 have to pay fines equal to several hundred of dollars each.
The Youth Front is an unregistered movement uniting young Belarusian activists.
