MINSK – Belarus's Justice Ministry has officially confirmed the registration of the opposition Za Svobodu (For Liberty) movement.
Za Svobodu Deputy Chairman Yuras Gubarevich told RFE/RL's Belarus Service that the movement was officially registered only on its fourth attempt to gain registration.
The decision to establish the movement was made on October 23 in the city of Magileu, at the movement's founding congress.
Prominent Belarusian opposition politician and presidential candidate Alyaksandr Milinkevich was elected as the movement's chairman. Viktar Karnyaenka and Gubarevich were elected deputy chairmen.
