June 2, 2007 – Suspected insurgents early today destroyed a major bridge connecting the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, with the northern cities of Kirkuk and Irbil.
Police said explosives were used to destroy the Sarha Bridge, near the town of Tuz Khurmato on the Chinchal River, some 150 kilometers north of Baghdad.
The U.S. military says three children were killed on June 1 during a U.S. attack on suspected militants in the restive Al-Anbar Governorate.
They were killed when a U.S. tank fired at three men believed to be planting explosives on a major highway southeast of Al-Fallujah.
Elsewhere, Iraqi military sources said a truck bomb killed 11 Iraqi soldiers in the northern town of Al-Sharkat late on June 1.
The U.S. military also announced on June 1 the deaths of five more servicemen.
