No information on the Ecuadorian military identity card called cédula militar de extranjero inmigrante could be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate. Nevertheless, Section 9 of the Ecuadorian mandatory military service law, titled "Military Documents" (De los Documentos militares), refers to the following documents: a military identity card (tarjeta de identificación militar), a military reservist card (cédula militar de reservista) and a military service exemption card (cédula militar de exento) (Ecuador 3 Aug. 1994).

Article 101 of the same section of the law stipulates that all male foreign immigrants (extranjeros inmigrantes varones) between the ages of 18 and 55 must be in possession of a foreign immigrant card (cédula de extranjero inmigrante) (ibid.). The Website of the Mobilization Division (Dirección de movilización) of the Ecuadorian armed forces corroborated that fact (ibid. n.d.).

Moreover, a newsletter by the Chamber of Tourism for Pichincha Province (Cámara Provincial de Turismo de Pichincha, CAPTUR) indicated that in order to travel outside Ecuador, foreign men between the ages of 18 and 55 whose status is either that of [translation] "resident" or [translation] "immigrant" must be in possession of a military permit authorizing foreign nationals to leave the country (2 May 2004).
