In 25 March 2004 telephone interviews, the President of the African Association for the Defence of Human Rights (Association africaine de défense des droits de l'homme, ASADHO) and a journalist from the Belgian newspaper Le Soir, who is an expert on the Great Lakes Region of Africa, indicated that, to their knowledge, people from the Province of Équateur, including the Mbunza, are not subject to any particular treatment by the Congolese authorities.

The Belgian journalist explained that members of the Mbunza ethnic group, like those of other tribes in Équateur, are represented in the transition institutions currently in place in RDC, such as the government, parliament, army and senate (Le Soir 25 Mar. 2004). (See also their comments regarding the Ngbandi tribe, also from the Province of Équateur, in RDC42470.E of 2 March 2004).
