Besides the April 2001 police assault of the Secretary-General of the Gay Albania Society and a friend who was a transvestite outside the barracks of the Republic Guards, any more recent incidents related to the treatment of members of the Gay Albania Society could not be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate (AI 1 Sept. 2001; UN Oct. 2003).
This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
