No mention of the existence of a newspaper in Arequipa called Correo Comunitario or Correo Comunitario de Arequipa could be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate.
After having consulted the files on local publications, an employee at the media services and public relations office of the Provincial Municipality of Arequipa indicated during a 27 June 2003 telephone interview that he had not found any mention of a publication by the name of Correo Comunitario or Correo Comunitario de Arequipa in the city of Arequipa. The employee added that it is possible that a newspaper with one of these names exists in Arequipa but, if that is the case, it is not widely known; according to him, it might be a paper with a very limited circulation in one of the city's 28 districts (distritos), but he would need to know which district to request more information from the corresponding administrative office (municipalidad distrital) (Municipalidad Provincial de Arequipa 27 June 2003).
During telephone interviews held on 27 June 2003, the press office directors for the Arequipa daily newspapers Correo, Diario El Pueblo, Diario Noticias and Arequipa al Día stated, after having consulted their reporters, that they had never heard of a publication by the name of Correo Comunitario de Arequipa or Correo Comunitario in Arequipa. The Arequipa press office director of Correo, a national newspaper that publishes a local daily edition in Arequipa, added that Correo is the only publication in Arequipa that includes the word "correo" in its name (27 June 2003). The press office directors at Arequipa al Día and Diario Noticias indicated that their reporters are certain that no paper with either of the two names is available to the general public (publicación de circulación abierta) (Arequipa al Día 27 June 2003; Diario Noticias 27 June 2003). However, the two directors added that an institutional publication that is not available to the public, and therefore is not well known, could indeed have one of these names (ibid.; Arequipa al Día 27 June 2003).
