Very little information on the company called Universal Trading del Peru could be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate.

A 1 June 1996 report on the Website of the Embassy of the United States of America in Lima lists Universal Trading del Peru S.A. as a major distributor of safety and security equipment. The document states that the company is based in Lima and that its manager is Victor Hugo Alegre (ibid.).

The only other mention of an individual named Victor Hugo Alegre that was found was in a statement made by a number of writers, artists and other professionals who opposed the dismissal of a bill that would have lowered the prices of books in Peru (RCP 8 June 2002). A Victor Hugo Alegre Cardenas was listed as a "businessman" (empresario) and as one of the signatories of the declaration (ibid.).

Universal Trading del Peru S.A. was also named in a document of the State Contracting and Acquisition Tribunal (Tribunal de Contrataciones y Adquisiciones del Estado) (Peru 17 Apr. 2002). The company bid on a contract for the provision of a virtual shooting range for the Peruvian Navy (Marina de Guerra) and then unsuccessfully appealed the decision rendered in this case when another company was awarded the contract (ibid.).

However, the Research Directorate was unable to find a current listing for Universal Trading del Peru in the yellow and white pages of Lima in the Amarillas Telefónica Website. Furthermore, no other references to Universal Trading del Peru or anyone associated with this could be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum. Please find below the list of additional sources consulted in researching this Information Request.
