According to the Consul at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, in Ottawa, parents are required to register their child within one month of its birth (Korea 2 July 2003). The birth should be registered at the local registration office in the town or city where the child was born (ibid.). The applicant should provide "any certificate of birth made by a doctor, a midwife or any person engaged in delivery" to the registration office (ibid.).
This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
