A bar named El Brunca was mentioned in a 17 November 1997 article published in La Nación. The Comptroller General (Contraloría General) of Costa Rica stated in a report that "anomalies" (anomalías) were observed in the handling of funds in Buenos Aires de Puntarenos and that the Socioeconomic Development Association of the Cantón of Buenos Aires (Asociación de Desarrollo Socioeconómico para el Cantón de Buenos Aires, ADSEBA) was responsible for the mishandling of those funds (ibid.). Among other things, the Comptroller General found that 8,850,000 colones [CDN$51,862 (Oanda 23 July 2002)] were invested for the purchase of the El Brunca bar, which had already declared losses of over 2,615,000 colones [CDN$15,324 (Oanda 23 July 2002)] (ibid.).
No other mention of the Buenos Aires bar named El Brunca could be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate.
