During a 7 September 2000 telephone interview with the Research Directorate, the editor of Le Temps, a Chadian independent weekly newspaper stated that, since the May 1998 peace agreement with the Chadian government, the Armed Forces for the Federal Republic–FARF has ceased to exist. He added that some FARF members who were opposed to the May 1998 agreement went into exile.

Subsequent to May 1998, it was announced that "the FARF had in fact joined the MPS [the Patriotic Salvation Movement (Mouvement patriotique du salut–MPS of the president Idriss Déby]) in December" [ 1998]; that decision was reported by Dienambaye Bardé, the brother of the popular FARF Leader Looken Bardé, who was believed to have died in the early fighting (Political Handbook of the World 1999, 185).

TCD32195.F and TCD29952.F of 8 July 1999 and 3 September 1998 respectively refer to the May 1998 peace agreement between the FARF and the Chadian government.
