A directory of offices of the Federal Attorney General (Procuraduría General de la República, PGR), to which the Federal Judicial Police (Policía Judicial Federal, PJF) is attached (see previous Responses and Q&A Papers for details on this organizational relationship), provides the following address for its head office in Tuxtla Gutierrez: 4a Norte Oriente No. 541, col. [Colonia] Centro, C.P. [Postal Code] 29000, Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas (PGR 4 Sept. 2000). The listing also provides the address for its district agency in Tuxtla Gutierrez: 2/A Norte y 1 Oriente, Col. Centro, C.P. 29000.

Staff at the office of the State Delegate of the PGR in Chiapas stated during a 27 April 2001 telephone interview that the above address is also the address of the head office of the PJF in Chiapas. The staff stated that the head of the PJF for Chiapas since the year 2000 is Comandante Fausto González Cárdenas, and his title is Sub-delegado de la Policía Judicial Federal; before him, and covering the period 1999-2000, the head of the PJF for Chiapas was Ing. [Engineer] Gerardo García Luna (ibid.).

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
