Only two reports on the activities of Interahamwe militia in Remera and in Mutare around June 1998 could be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate.
Citing an eye witness, a 17 July Monitor article stated that, around 34 persons were massacred by Interahamwe militias during a 12 July 1998 attack on Remera trading centre located at some 35 kilometers north west Kigali (17 July 1998). Also, citing the officials authorities, a 29 April 1998 Rwandan News Agency (RNA) report revealed that some "seven members of the same family belonging to the councillor of Remera sector" were killed on 28 April 1998, when "unidentified gang believed to be Hutu militias [Interahamwe] erupted in Mushubati commune, in Gitarama prefecture.
