Information on a division of Malacatancito could not be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate.
Various sources indicate that Malacatancito is a town and municipality of the department of Huehuetenango.
Staff at the municipality of Huehuetenango, departmental capital of Huehuetenango, stated during a 27 June 2000 telephone interview that Malacatancito is a town and municipality of the department of Huehuetenango, approximately 25 kilometres from the city of Huehuetenango. The staff stated that, to the best of their knowledge, Malacatancito is crossed by a river but had not been divided into more than one town, and added that they had no knowledge of a nearby town called Villa Hermosa (ibid.). However, the staff interviewed stated that Villa Hermosa could be a neighbourhood of Malacatancito or a nearby small village (ibid.). The municipal authorities of Malacatancito have no telephone, and the entire municipality has only a few private telephones (ibid.).
A map of Guatemala prepared by the National Geographic Institute of Guatemala in 1979 states that the distance between the city of Huehuetenango and the city of Malacatan is 186 kilometres (30 Oct. 1979).
A 1991 report on World Vision activities in Guatemala states that its partners included the following religious organizations: Christian and Missionary Alliance, Assemblies of God, "the Methodists, Episcopals, and the Seventh Day Adventists" (IRC Dec. 1991).
Information on a school built by World Vision or its partners in Guatemala in a town called Villa Hermosa in between 1992 and 1993 could not be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate.
