The information that follows was provided during telephone interviews with secretarial staff of the Concejo Deliberante (municipal council) of the Department of Tunuyan.
oncejo Deliberante of the Department of Tunuyan consists of 16 members. Every two years, an election is held for eight of the council seats, all of which are held for a term of four years.
The Tunuyan council had, until 30 November 1999, 6 members of the Partido Justicialista (PJ), 2 members of PAIS, 2 members of FREPASO, 3 members of the Democratic Party of Mendoza (PD), and 3 members of the Union Civica Radical (UCR). Its members were: Raul Gomez, Miguel Mansilla, Hugo Omar Manreza, Juan Carlos Bellaluna, Miriam Casado, Juan Carlos Darder, Maria del Pilar Fernandez, Nancy Garcia, Leonardo Giacomelli, Ramon Silvestre Hinojosa, Carlos Lopez, Juan Alejo Mallea, Monica Martin, Maria Pierantonelli, Carlos Santibañez, and Juan Carlos Tarditti.
The seats of Raul Gomez, Miriam Casado, Nancy Garcia, Carlos Lopez, Juan Alejo Mallea, Maria Pierantonelli, Carlos Santibañez and Juan Carlos Tarditti were contested in the 24 October 1999 elections. Only Carlos Santibañez was reelected. The seven newly-elected members of the Tunuyan council are: Jose Dante Serrano, Luis Secundino Bastias, Pedro Oscar Fernandez, Elsa Gioacchini, Jose Luis San Martin, Humberto Luis Piermarini, and Teresita Noemi Villalobos.
As a result of the 24 October 1999 elections, the Tunuyan council now has 7 PJ members, 3 PD members, 3 Alianza (UCR/FREPASO) members, 2 UCR members, and 1 PAIS member.
Raul Gomez was the President of the council during the last term, but after the 24 October elections Miguel Mansilla was named to the post on an interim basis, and will hold it until 28 February 2000. The First Vice-President of the council is Hugo Omar Manreza, and the Second Vice-President is the oldest councillor, Jose Dante Serrano.
Historic data on council membership could not be provided within the time constraints of this Response.
