Information on the Chinese Progressive Alliance could not be found among the sources consulted by the DIRB. However, as discussed, please find attached information on the China Progressive Alliance (CPA).

Included in the attachments is an Amesty Interntional document that is an English translation of court proceedings against members of the CPA. Please consult the Human Rights Watch/ Asia document Pressure Off, China Targets Activists of 29 July 1994 available at Regional Documentation Centres, for a criticism of this trial.

Please also consult the July 1995 DIRB Question and Answer Series paper, China: Political Dissent—An Update for additional information on the CPA and other dissident movements.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
