Specific information on the treatment of Moldovans in Belarus is currently unavailable to the DIRB. Please find attached media reports on relations between the Republic of Moldova and Belarus. An article published by TASS on 20 December 1992 indicates that a treaty of friendship and cooperation between these two republics is expected to be signed. A previous article published by TASS on 13 December 1992 indicates that a communique was adopted as a result of a meeting held in the Belarus capital between Mircea Snegur and Stanislav Shushkevitch which stipulates that

relations between the Republic of Moldova and Byelorussia (sic) will be based on mutual recognition and respect for state sovereignty, principles of equality and non-interference in each other's affairs, renunciation of the use of force, settlement of disputes by peaceful means, respect for human rights and basic liberties.
