The information officer at the United Nations High Commission for Refugees in Ottawa states that there is no camp in Dire-Dawa. However, a very large camp is located at Hartisheik, about 125-130 km to the southeast of Dire-Dawa. Hartisheik is near the town of Jijiga. The December 1988 edition of the UNHCR's periodical, Refugees, mentions that in addition to Hartisheik, there are camps called Harshin and Aware in the Hararghe region of south-eastern Ethiopia.
