According to Country Reports on Human Rights Practices for 1992,
[e]thnic tension in [I]nner Mongolia and Xinjiang persisted at a low level. Three Inner Mongolian independence activists were given sentences ranging from 2 to 8 years on charges of engaging in "splittist propaganda," according to press reports from Hong Kong (1993, 550-551).
Keesing's Record of World Events 1992 refers to a 1992 Asia Watch report on "a recent crackdown against dissident activity in Inner Mongolia, reflecting [Chinese] government fears of nationalist influence spreading from neighbouring Mongolia" (1992, 38814).
Additional information on the above subject is currently unavailable to the DIRB.
