Published information on this subject is currently unavailable to the IRBDC in Ottawa. A Ghanaian doctoral student in the department of Political Science at Carleton University stated in a personal interview with the IRBDC (27 Nov. 1991)0 that persons alleged to have helped those involved in coup attempts would normally be arrested and charged with conspiracy or subversion. Amnesty International, in a report entitled, Ghana: Detention Without Trail - The Quarshigah "Conspiracy" (AI Index: AFR/28/05/90), corroborates this information. For details on the September 1989 coup attempt, and the treatment of persons alleged to have taken part in the conspiracy to overthrow the government, please refer to the attached previous response to Information Request Number GHA7948 and the Amnesty International Report Ghana: Detention Without Trail - The Quarshigah "Conspiracy" (Amnesty International, AI Index: AFR/28/05/99).
