For background information, please find attached an article analyzing the creation and rise of the Alianza Republicana Nacionalista (ARENA) party of El Salvador and a résumé of Enrique Borgo Bustamante provided by the Embassy of El Salvador in Ottawa. The resume states that the current vice-president of El Salvador has worked as a lawyer and notary since 1970, mostly in corporate and taxation matters. The same document states that Borgo Bustamante was the president of Hotel El Salvador since 1983, executive president of TACA International Airlines since 1981, and president of Promotora de Negocios e Inversiones from 1980 to 1990.
This response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
