According to representatives of the Indian high commission in Ottawa and the Indian embassy in Washington, DC, the cause of death would normally be indicated on an Indian death certificate (25 July 1994). The high commission representative in Ottawa does not think the date of birth of the deceased appears on the certificate, and the representative of the Washington embassy does not know whether the date is provided (ibid.).

This response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
