According to the excerpts from the attached document published by the French Office des Migrations Internationales (OMI), the administrative body responsible for the implementation of public policies regarding the entry and the labour of foreigners in France, applications for the renewal of temporary residence permits (cartes de séjour temporaire) must be filed at the "préfecture de police" (or one of its subsidiaries) within the two month period prior to the expiration of the permit (OMI Classeur 1995 fascicule A, 24) and that renewal of this permit will be denied if the applicant does not comply with the time limits prescribed (ibid., 26). Response to Information Request FRA27725.E of 16 September 1997 provides additional information on the authority regarding residence matters in France.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
