In a 4 April 1997 telephone interview with the DIRB, a lawyer with the State Prosecutor Human Rights Directorate (Dirección de los Derechos Humanos de la Fiscalía  General) in Caracas stated that she had no knowledge of a Congressional Human Rights Group Sub-Commission report on the investigation of the Catia prison riot. The lawyer stated that she had made inquiries on the above-mentioned subject to Congressional Human Rights Group Sub-Commission President Vladimir Villegas who stated that he was uncertain as to whether Commission findings of the Catia prison riot investigation even existed (ibid.).

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
