Information on a prison called Ghezel Hassaj in Karaj is currently unavailable amond the sources consulted by the DIRB. However, information is available on an Iranian prison called Qezel-Hesar in Karaj.

The following information was provided during a 3 December 1996 telephone interview with a specialist of Iran in England.

The source stated that conditions in the Qezel-Hesar are very difficult. Security measures are tight and it would be difficult to escape the prison. The source added that it is not possible to exchange foreign currencies in the prison. The source was unaware of the existence of internal banking facilities in the Qezel-Hesar prison.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
