According to a representative of the embassy of Albania in Washington, DC, a foreign man who is married to an Albanian citizen and who wants to obtain Albanian citizenship must follow the procedure indicated in the attached Response to Information Request ALB18135.E of 11 August 1994 (10 Aug. 1994). The representative indicated that it is suggested that, in the letter of application for Albanian citizenship, the applicant indicate that he/she is married to an Albanian (ibid.). The representative was unable to give further details regarding the criteria in granting Albanian citizenship to a foreign man married to an Albanian citizen. He also stated that dual citizenship is accepted in Albania and that the applicants nationality is irrelevant when he or she is being considered for Albanian citizenship (ibid.).
This response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
