Information on the above-mentioned topic could not be found among the sources currently available to the DIRB in Ottawa. According to West Africa (8-14 Oct. 1991, 2626) a noted leader of the 22 April 1990 coup d'etat attempt, Lieutenant Colonel Antony Nyam, is alleged to have escaped from Nigeria with the help of "influential Nigerians," but the source does not specify whether he escaped from Kirikiri Maximum Security Prison, another prison or was at large in Nigeria before his defection.

For additional information on Nigerian prisons, please refer to the attached documents.
