According to a representative of the Embassy of Bulgaria in Washington, DC, Vassil Stainilov, a high-ranking official of the Communist Party of Bulgaria during the Communist era, published Anti in Sofia at least until June 1992 (29 Sept. 1993). Anti, which was a weekly newspaper with " a very small circulation," described itself as "a private forum for independent information" (Ibid.). While unable to determine exactly when the first issue of Anti was published, the representative states that it was probably published after 1989. The representative was also unable to determine whether Anti was still published.
This response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
